Acupuncture is a term which describes techniques involving stimulation of anatomical points on the body. While we use sterile,
single use needles at Badger Canyon Family Health & Wellness, laser and simple pressure (acupressure) are also acceptable forms.
Often mild electrical stimulation or infrared heat is used in conjunction with acupuncture needles.
Acupuncture has been
practiced for thousands of years in China, Japan, and other countries. In traditional Chinese medicine, the body is seen as
a delicate balance of two opposing and inseparable forces or "energies". These forces flow through several different pathways
in the body. Disease is seen as a long term complication of energy being out of balance. While two patients may have the
same symptom - such as back pain or sinusitis, the imbalance may actually be in a different pathway for each patient.
During
your first acupuncture visit, you will be asked a variety of questions in order to ascertain your best treatment plan. Questions
will involve your medical health, symptoms, lifestyle, and behavior patterns. Depending on the level of complexity of your problems,
the first visit may be spent in an extended interview and examination and treatment may be delayed until the next visit. You
may require a series of treatments and the number of treatments and frquency of treatments will be determined throughout your care.
I am most frequently asked if acupuncture hurts. Our needles are the diameter of a hair, and while you may experience
some mild discomfort, it is not generally painful.
Acupuncture is covered by some, but not all health insurance. Please
check with your individual provider.
